Footscray's Pride Short Film Fest: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Stories on the Big Screen!

We spoke with Mat O'Keefe, the energetic bar manager at Pride of Our Footscray, and Tom Nguyen, the festival director, to get a sense of the excitement surrounding this groundbreaking event. Their passion for bringing this festival to life is palpable.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Pride Short Film Fest,” says Mat. “Footscray is such a vibrant and inclusive community, and we wanted to create a space where LGBTQ+ voices could be heard and celebrated. Combining amazing short films with our usual friendly atmosphere and great drinks just feels like the perfect combination.”
Tom echoes Mat’s enthusiasm, adding, “The response from filmmakers has been incredible. We’ve received submissions from all over Australia and beyond, showcasing a wide range of talent and storytelling approaches. We’re really proud of the program we’ve put together and can’t wait to share these films with the community.”
