Zelenskyy Offers Drone Tech to Nordic and Baltic Nations
Ukraine has offered to share its drone technology with Nordic and Baltic countries, President Zelenskyy announced during a summit held in Tallinn, Estonia. The meeting, convened amidst Russia’s ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine, brought together the prime ministers of the Nordic and Baltic Eight (NB8) regional grouping, alongside Zelenskyy himself.
Estonia, currently holding the rotating presidency of the NB8, hosted the summit. The NB8 comprises five Nordic nations – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden – and three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The discussions focused on bolstering regional security and cooperation in response to the evolving geopolitical landscape.
Zelenskyy’s offer of drone technology signifies Ukraine’s willingness to share its battlefield experience and expertise with neighbouring countries. The use of drones has been a crucial element in Ukraine’s defence against the Russian invasion, and the country has developed significant capabilities in this area. Sharing this technology could enhance the collective security of the NB8 nations.
The summit took place against the backdrop of Russia’s four-year-long military actions in Ukraine, which escalated to a full-scale invasion in 2022. The NB8 has consistently voiced its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, providing both humanitarian and military assistance. This summit represents a further step in strengthening those ties and exploring collaborative solutions to shared security challenges.
