SSNIT: Getting Ghanaians Online Biggest Challenge - Biney

Ghana’s Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) faces a significant hurdle – encouraging wider adoption of its digital platforms, according to Director-General Kwasi Afreh Biney. While technological advancements have been made, the biggest challenge now lies in getting more Ghanaians to utilise the online services designed to streamline pension processes and improve accessibility.

Biney stated that previously, technological infrastructure was a primary concern for SSNIT. However, with substantial investments and upgrades, the scheme has made considerable progress in modernising its systems. The focus has now shifted to ensuring that the Ghanaian public actively engages with these digital tools.

The digital platforms offer a range of benefits, including faster processing times for pension applications, easier access to account information, and the ability to manage contributions online. SSNIT aims to make the pension system more convenient and efficient for all contributors and beneficiaries. The current challenge is bridging the digital literacy gap and overcoming any reluctance among Ghanaians to transition away from traditional, in-person methods.

SSNIT is likely to need to implement further strategies to encourage uptake, such as targeted awareness campaigns, digital literacy training programs, and potentially simplified platform interfaces. The scheme’s success hinges on its ability to demonstrate the tangible benefits of utilising these digital services to a broader segment of the Ghanaian population.
