UPSC Uses Face Scan to Combat Exam Impersonation
New Delhi – The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is implementing facial recognition technology for candidates sitting the Civil Services Preliminary Examination, a move designed to bolster the fairness and security of the highly competitive exam process.
This new technology aims to prevent impersonation, a persistent challenge in recruitment examinations across India. The UPSC manages the Civil Services Examination, a rigorous multi-stage test considered one of the country’s toughest, attracting hundreds of thousands of applicants vying for prestigious government positions.
The face authentication system will verify candidates' identities during the examination, adding an extra layer of security beyond traditional methods like photo IDs. Details about the precise implementation of the technology, including how it will be integrated into the exam centres and the data privacy measures in place, have not been fully released.
