Channel Islands motorists are being reminded that they are not eligible for the UK’s car finance compensation scheme, despite similar issues affecting drivers across the British Isles. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) officially launched the scheme in March to address instances of mis-sold motor finance agreements.

The clarification comes as many island residents may have been confused by widespread media coverage of the UK scheme. This includes investigating if similar practices to those addressed by the UK scheme occurred within the islands' financial sector.

The FCA’s decision to exclude the Channel Islands is based on the fact that motor finance agreements in those jurisdictions are not governed by UK regulations. Each jurisdiction maintains its own specific rules and oversight mechanisms for financial products and services.
