SSNIT: Getting Ghanaians Online is Biggest Challenge - Biney

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) faces a significant hurdle not in its technological infrastructure, but in encouraging wider adoption of its digital platforms among Ghanaians, according to Director-General Kwasi Afreh Biney. This shift in focus highlights a key challenge for the pension scheme as it strives to modernize and improve service delivery.
Biney stated that while SSNIT has invested in technology to streamline processes and enhance convenience, the primary obstacle now lies in persuading more citizens to utilize these digital tools. The current system aims to provide faster and more accessible services, but its effectiveness is dependent on user engagement.
SSNIT's push for digitalization reflects a broader trend in government services across Ghana, seeking to leverage technology to improve efficiency and transparency. However, digital literacy and access remain barriers for many, particularly in rural areas and among older generations. Overcoming these barriers is crucial for SSNIT to fully realize the benefits of its technological investments and ensure that all Ghanaians can readily access their pension services.
The Director-General’s comments underscore the importance of public awareness campaigns and targeted outreach programs to educate Ghanaians about the advantages of using SSNIT’s digital platforms and to provide the necessary support for those who may be less familiar with technology. Addressing this challenge will be vital to ensuring the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of the pension scheme.
