RMAF Jet Lands Safely at KKIA After Engine Trouble

KOTA KINABALU, May 20 – A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet successfully executed an emergency landing at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) earlier today following an engine issue. The incident occurred during a routine training flight, prompting the pilot to swiftly initiate emergency protocols.
According to sources within the RMAF, the pilot detected a technical fault with one of the aircraft's engines. Prioritizing safety, the pilot immediately contacted air traffic control and initiated the emergency landing procedure. KKIA’s emergency services were placed on standby, ensuring all necessary resources were available to assist the aircraft upon arrival.
“The pilot handled the situation professionally and adhered to all established safety procedures,” stated a spokesperson for the RMAF, confirming the incident and emphasizing that the aircraft landed safely without any injuries to the pilot or damage to the airport infrastructure. The F/A-18D Hornet is a twin-engine, multirole fighter aircraft used by the RMAF for air defense and ground attack missions.
